Aerospace Rivets
Around 15,000 solid, blind, and Hi-Shear rivets — MS20426, MS20470, NAS1097, NAS1738/NAS1739, and OEM part numbers in 2117-T4, 2024, monel, and CRES — ready to order with full AS9120 traceability.
Aerospace Rivet Types
Solid, blind, and Hi-Shear rivets to MS, NAS, AN, and OEM standards — the fasteners that hold aircraft skin, stringers, and frames together.
Universal Head Solid Rivets
MS20470 universal-head rivets (superseding AN470) are the general-purpose solid rivets for internal structure and surfaces where aerodynamic flushness is not required. Driven with a rivet gun and bucking bar or a squeezer.
100° Flush Solid Rivets
MS20426 countersunk rivets (superseding AN426) sit flush with the skin for aerodynamic surfaces. NAS1097 reduced-head flush rivets suit thin skins and shallow countersinks where a full-size head would knife-edge the sheet.
Blind Rivets
Installed entirely from one side: NAS1738 protruding-head and NAS1739 flush-head blind rivets, plus CherryMAX-type locked-spindle structural blind rivets for closed structure, control surfaces, and repairs without back-side access.
Hi-Shear & OEM Rivets
Two-piece Hi-Shear pin-and-collar rivets deliver bolt-class shear strength at rivet-class weight in thick primary structure. We also quote Boeing BACR15-family and other OEM-proprietary rivet part numbers.
Rivet Materials & Head Markings
2117-T4 Aluminum (AD)
The most widely used solid rivet alloy, identified by the dimpled head marking. Driven as received with no heat treatment, which makes it the default for general airframe sheet-metal work.
2024-T4 Aluminum (DD)
Higher-strength icebox rivets marked with two raised dashes. Solution treated and refrigerated before driving, then age-hardened in place — specified where 2117 strength is insufficient.
Monel
Nickel-copper alloy rivets for firewalls, high-temperature zones, and joints in corrosion-resistant steel structure where aluminum rivets are unsuitable.
CRES (Corrosion-Resistant Steel)
Stainless rivets for high-strength and elevated-temperature applications, including engine and nacelle areas. 5056 aluminum rivets are also cataloged for magnesium structure.

The Fasteners That Hold the Skin On
Rivets remain the dominant fastener for aircraft skin, stringer, and frame construction: a driven solid rivet fills its hole completely, transfers shear efficiently, and never loosens under vibration. The Instaparts catalog carries roughly 15,000 rivet line items among its 266,000+ parts, spanning solid rivets to MS20426 and MS20470, reduced-head NAS1097 flush rivets, blind rivets to NAS1738 and NAS1739, CherryMAX-type structural blind rivets, Hi-Shear pin-and-collar rivets, and OEM-proprietary families from Boeing, Airbus, and Bombardier.
Reading a rivet callout correctly is half the job. A part number like MS20426AD4-6 tells you the head style (100-degree flush), the alloy (AD, 2117-T4, marked with a dimple), the diameter in 32nds, and the length in 16ths of an inch. Material selection follows the structure: 2117-T4 for general aluminum airframe work, 2024-T4 icebox rivets where more strength is needed, 5056 for magnesium parts, and monel or CRES for firewalls and high-temperature zones. Blind rivets earn their place wherever only one side of the work is accessible — closed torque boxes, trailing edges, and field repairs.
Because rivets are bought by the thousand and look alike in a bag, they are a favorite target for counterfeiters — and a mis-alloyed rivet is invisible until it fails. Instaparts, a division of RFQ2Go, Inc. in Toronto, Canada, is an AS9120 Rev B certified distributor: we source only from approved suppliers, apply counterfeit-prevention controls aligned with AS6081, maintain lot traceability from receipt through delivery, and ship every order with certificates of conformance.

Aerospace Rivet FAQs
What is the difference between MS20426 and MS20470 rivets?
MS20426 rivets have a 100-degree countersunk head that sits flush with the skin, used on aerodynamic surfaces. MS20470 rivets have a universal (protruding) head, used where flushness is not required. Both are solid-shank rivets driven with a gun and bucking bar or squeezed.
What is an icebox rivet?
Icebox rivets are 2024-T4 (DD) solid rivets. Because 2024 age-hardens quickly at room temperature, the rivets are solution heat treated and then kept refrigerated until just before driving, so they are driven in a soft condition and reach full strength as they age afterward.
What are NAS1097 rivets used for?
NAS1097 rivets are 100-degree flush rivets with a reduced-diameter head. The smaller head suits thin skins and shallow countersinks where a full MS20426 head would knife-edge the sheet, and it is widely used in repair work per the applicable structural repair manual.
When are blind rivets used instead of solid rivets?
Blind rivets such as NAS1738 (protruding head), NAS1739 (flush head), and CherryMAX-type locked-spindle structural rivets are installed entirely from one side. They are the answer for closed boxes, control surfaces, and repairs where no bucking-bar access exists behind the work.
How do you protect against counterfeit rivets?
Instaparts operates an AS9120 Rev B certified quality management system with counterfeit-prevention controls aligned with AS6081. We buy only from approved suppliers, maintain lot traceability through delivery, and issue certificates of conformance with every shipment.
